Gaza Hardliners Removed

Israeli forces have raided two synagogues in the Gaza Strip to remove hundreds of hardliners
protesting against the removal
of settlers.

I have been following this story for the past couple days. It's interesting to me for a number of reasons. One, the situation has been going on in Gaza for most of my lifetime. Two, the human element of Israelis being forced from their homes by the Israeli army.

It's kind of crazy to think about, really, but the point of the whole evacuation is that the Israelis are there illegally. Politically, the Gaza Strip, one of the most densely populated areas in the world, isn't internationally recognized as belonging to any nation. In 1993 a treaty was signed giving a 5 year deadline for Israel to remove all settlers. That obviously came and went, with ongoing violence for many years...

It is sad to hear of families being removed from their homes, but the point, I guess, of all of this, is that they were there illegally. It'll be interesting to see what happens in the long run, I guess...
